NEHSA Goals — To sponsor and deliver outdoor recreational activities in a social atmosphere — Make it Fun!

Who We Are — NEHSA is a group of people who pool their knowledge, skill and courage to participate in sports activities. Skiing, however, is still the central sport because of its amazing adaptability to many types of disabilities.

NEHSA was founded in 1972 as a non-profit organization run by and for individuals with disabilities who wanted to enjoy active and independent lives through participation in sports. In 1994 we expanded our program to include ski instruction for developmentally disabled persons. Today our program's goals are to encourage positive attitudes, social opportunities and personal growth through the challenges that participation in outdoor sports and recreation offers.

Anyone Can Learn to Ski/Snowboard — NEHSA offers adaptive ski and Snowboard lessons to people of all ages and all disabilities. At Mount Sunapee Resort , where our homebase and winter program reside, skiers participate in either a stand up or sit-down program, some people try both. Among our stand-up skiers are amputees, persons who have recovered from polio or strokes, skiers with cerebral palsy, blind skiers, deaf skiers, and persons with developmental disabilities. Participants in our sit-down program may include persons with spina bifida, multiple sclerosis, paraplegic and quadriplegic.

The Lesson — There is a $45 annual NEHSA Membership fee for individuals and $70 for families. Contact Tom Kersey at tom.kersey@nehsa.org for group rates. Daily lessons are $40 for a 2 hour morning and afternoon or $25 for a morning or afternoon half day lesson. These individualized lessons include your adaptive equipment, instructors, and volunteers. We provide skis, boots, bindings, poles, and a full range of adaptive devices such as outriggers, ski bras, mono-skis, and bi-skis.

Call ahead to reserve your lesson time. Scholarship program available to anyone who may have financial constraints.

NEHSA requires all students to have their doctor fill out a medical information form (annually) prior to the student going out on a lesson. Follow this link to the printable form of our Physician's Statement

We welcome volunteers in all levels of our operation (must be 14 yrs. old +). Visit our Volunteer Page to explore how your talents fit our needs.

The first time I skied down the mountain I felt like I was flying! I had found a way to move as fast as I used to be able to move. I was free again. The equipment gave me the freedom to move that has been taken away by the course of MS. As the weather starts to get colder I'm beginning to look forward to another winter on the slopes.
